Professional Experience and Areas of Concentration

Kari Hershey’s practice includes litigation, administrative law, transactions, and compliance.

Health Law

 Ms. Hershey has a background in health care administration and formerly served as the Risk Manager and Ethics and Compliance Officer for a regional trauma center.  She regularly represents hospitals and licensed health care professionals including, but not limited to, physicians, dentists, psychiatrists, mental health providers, pharmacists, and nurses in malpractice litigation and administrative matters involving licensing and privileges.

Ms. Hershey also assists health related entities such as hospitals, surgery centers, and individual medical practices.  Ms. Hershey is pleased to assist such clients on a variety of issues, including: serving as a resource for legislative issues, health care compliance matters, including federal anti-kickback, Stark II, EMTALA, FDA, HIPAA legislation, and related regulations; risk management; and health care contracts.

Ms. Hershey also serves as a professor of health law and malpractice litigation at Colorado Law, University of Colorado Boulder.  This class includes presentations to, and a mock trial involving, medical students at the School of Medicine, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

General Counsel and Litigation

Ms. Hershey is pleased to represent a variety of clients and businesses by providing legal counsel on all aspects of their business, including contracting and general litigation matters.  Ms. Hershey represents clients, including licensed real estate brokers and businesses, in transactions, administrative matters before various state agencies, and litigation.

Appellate Practice

Ms. Hershey formerly interned at the Colorado Court of Appeals and now actively participates in the firm’s appellate practice.  Ms. Hershey has filed appellate briefs in federal and state court relating to a variety of health care issues from peer review protections and confidentiality of health information in malpractice litigation to Colorado’s wrongful death legislation.
